MAINTENANCE GUIDE FOR HUMAN WIG
Your human hair wig is a great investment that should be treated with
the utmost care. The better it is maintained, the more gorgeous it
will look. Follow these tips to maintain the style & prolong the life
of your wig;
DAILY MAINTENANCE
1. Keeping your wig moisturized is crucial to retaining its fabulous
style. We recommend you use styling products containing minimal
amounts of alcohol and use silicone based moisturisers.
Moisturisers reduce tangles and hydrate the hair without weighing it
down. Wig sprays can also be used to keep the wig
fresh. Be aware that excessive product use can create build up on
the hair and affect its performance. Washing helps to eliminate this.
2. Before styling, gently brush the hair through with a paddle brush (or
a wide toothed comb for curly styles) working from the end of the hair to the
root. Lightly wetting the hair and spraying a small amount of leave
in conditioner on the ends will help keep the hair’s hydration to its
optimum.
3. Styling mousse and serum are essential styling tools. For curly or
wavy styles, distribute a small amount of styling mousse over the hair with
your hands, lightly scrunch the hair in your hands and use your fingers to
separate the style into curls. For straight styles, use a small
amount of serum and brush lightly.
4. At night, gently brush through the hair to get rid of any tangles,
add a small amount of hair moisturiser or leave in conditioner and store on a
mannequin head to help retain the wig’s style.
HEAT STYLING
Although 100% human hair is genuine, real hair, heat shortens its life
span as it dehydrates the hair. All heated appliances can be used to
a recommended temperature of 250 degrees Celsius.
Always use a heat protective product on the hair before applying heat
and moisturisers once finished. Do not apply heat directly to the wig’s cap
excessively, as this can cause shedding. Avoid using hot stove iron
appliances.
WASHING
Recommend that you wash your wig a maximum of
once per fortnight to avoid product build up, and as washing deteriorates the
quality of the hair slightly after each wash.
To wash;
1. Gently detangle the hair by combing through with a paddle brush (or a
wide toothed comb for curly styles), working from the end of
the hair to the root.
2. Run lukewarm water through the hair.
3. Add one tablespoon of a mild, highly moisturising shampoo
that is pH balanced, to a basin filled with cold or lukewarm water.
4. Immerse the wig into the basin for one minute and agitate
gently. Do not rub. Remove the wig and gently massage through the hair by
squeezing out excess water with your fingers, working your way down the length
of the hair. Do not rub or twist the hair.
5. Rinse thoroughly, towel dry, then apply a generous amount of
moisture rich conditioner and leave for around 10 minutes. Rinse the hair then
pat dry with a towel, taking care not to wring the hair.
6. Spray leave in conditioner on the hair then ideally leave to air
dry, as heat from a hair dryer dehydrates the hair.
7. Comb the wig and style only when completely dry.
HOW LONG WILL YOUR WIG LAST?
How long your wig lasts depends on how well it is maintained and the
amount of use it sustains. With the best care & maintenance,
your human hair wig could last for several weeks.
PLEASE BE AWARE:
It is
normal for your wig to experience some light tangling and shedding as wear
increases and after the wig has been washed. Follow our daily maintenance tips to
reduce this.
The nape of the wig is more likely to
experience tangling compared to other areas due to friction. Using a leave in
conditioner and an anti frizz serum in this area minimizes tangles.
If your wig has a skin parting on the crown,
handle with care to avoid hair loss in this section.
To completely restyle the wig, we recommend
taking it to a professional stylist.
We cannot guarantee curly styles will retain
their curls following extensive wear or after washing. Re-curl with a curling
iron or apply retention sprays to help preserve the style.
We do not recommend that you re-color your
human hair wig.
The lace unit on lace front wigs is very
delicate, and must be handled with care to avoid tearing.
